Chuck Shapler is a retired Civil/Structural Engineer, originally from Toledo, Ohio, now living in Clearwater, Florida. Prior to moving to Florida, Chuck built and flew experimental airplanes. He was widowed in 1995 and decided to sell his home which contained his airplane building shop. When he moved to Florida, he looked about for another hobby. Luckily, he discovered painting. Chuck came to art late in life following a successful career using computers to solve various engineering problems. The drafting associated with his early engineering work was always of special interest and enjoyment. Chuck now uses this drafting experience to prepare very detailed drawings for his watercolor paintings. He has said that he enjoys the drawing probably more than the painting as he has complete control of the drawing whereas watercolor consistently proves that it has a mind of its own. His realistic style of painting has met with success as he has won numerous awards and found a ready market for his paintings. Having sailed Lake Erie for many years, Chuck now specializes primarily in marine scenes. Chuck’s painting of the Cedar Key Skyline was selected for the Cornell Museum, Delray Beach, recent All Florida Artists exhibition. The Coos Bay Oregon Gallery selected two of his marine scenes to be included in their 11th Annual Marine Art Exhibit. His painting of the Dunedin R.R. station was used in the Dunedin Historical Society new brochure. In 2004 American Greetings of Cleveland, Ohio purchased a series of fifteen of his original paintings to be used for their greeting cards and to hang in their corporate offices. Chuck is one of the charter members of C5Arts, a group of five award-winning watermedia artists residing in the Tampa Bay area. C5Arts has been very successful exhibiting their original paintings, Giclee reproductions and matted prints at many galleries and events in the Tampa Bay area. These, and other original paintings, Gicleé reproductions and double matted inkjet prints are available for purchase. Please contact Chuck for information and prices.
