Betsy Schoepf has been painting
in oils for over 30 years. Those thirty years have been
broken by long periods of child-raising, employment, and
rare occasions of producing a painting or two. She has
looked forward to the day when she can concentrate
wholeheartedly on studying, and developing her painting
skills. Now retired, she is doing just that.
Betsy enjoys painting her surroundings. It can be a still
life made up of familiar objects in her home. Or, it might
be the small cottages that dot the town of Indian Rocks
Beach where she lives. Her favorite subject matter has
become the beach itself. With its ever-changing moods,
colors, season, local people, visitors, bits of flotsam and
jetsam, the artist is presented with a vast array of
inspirational subjects. Favorites are the children who come
for a few hours and find a magic experience with only a
bucket and shovel, a few shells and a pile of sand .
Having come to believe that teaching is a good way to pursue
a strong interest, Betsy is now instructing in Beginning
Oils at the Dimmitt Center in Belleair.
The basics of composition, color, and various
painting techniques are taught. She invites anyone to
contact her regarding classes.
They are held at 5 - 8 pm on Tuesday evenings .
Betsy is a member of the Beach Art Center and Suntan Art
Center.
She has a home studio but her art can be seen at
Pass-A-Grille Art Mart on Pass-A-Grille Beach on many
Saturdays.
